Digestibility determined simply from the difference between the amount of a nutrient consumed (I) and the amount excreted in the faeces (F), expressed as a proportion of the intake. Thus apparent digestibility = (I – F)/I. It is also determined at the terminal ileum by measuring the loss of the nutrient in ileal digesta (D); thus apparent digestibility at the terminal ileum = (I–D)/I. Unlike true digestibility or real digestibility, apparent digestibility ignores losses of endogenous origin.
